Japanese-style painter Yoshitoshi Shinomiya’s feature-length animation debut

A new-generation coming-of-age animation featuring Toshihisa Hagiwara and Kotone Furukawa in their voice acting debuts is now available on Blu-ray!

Japanese painter Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, who has contributed to works by directors Makoto Shinkai and Sunao Katabuchi and engaged in creative activities across genres including commercials and music videos, makes his feature-length animation directorial debut with this film based on his own original screenplay.

"Those fireworks captured a slice of the universe—"

The long-established Obito Fireworks Shop is being forced to vacate its premises due to urban redevelopment. Keitaro Obito (Toshihisa Hagiwara), who grew up there, has been struggling alone to complete the legendary firework “Shuhari” in place of his father, who has vanished.On a day at the end of summer, his childhood friend Kaoru (Kotone Furukawa), who lives in Tokyo, returns to their hometown. Keitaro’s older brother, Sentaro, who works at city hall, informs them that the eviction deadline is tomorrow, and the three reunite for the first time in four years.As they clash, seemingly trying to reclaim their lost time and bonds, they devise a surprising plan to complete and launch the fireworks—but... The hope entrusted to the phantom fireworks, and the "Hana Ryokusei" that holds the key. When the sparks illuminate the night and a new morning dawns, what futures will Keitaro and the others grasp?

This marks the first time in history that a feature-length animation directorial debut has been selected for the Berlin International Film Festival Competition section!

★The film features a dual lead performance by Toshihisa Hagiwara and Kotone Furukawa. They are joined by popular voice actor Miyu Irino and acclaimed supporting actor Takashi Okabe.

★The theme song is performed by imase, whose social media views worldwide exceed 30 billion and who boasts immense popularity. As a member of the same generation as the protagonist, he wrote the lyrics and composed the new song "Aoba," a bittersweet ode to youth and life. Shuta Hasunuma, who composed the film’s score, handles the arrangement and sound production.
