その名のとおり、裂ける（Rip）ことを止める（Stop）特徴で細くて軽い繊維に太い繊維を「格子状」に縫い込むことで軽量化と穴があいてもそれ以上裂け目が広がるのを防ぐ効果があります。
もともとパラシュートや軍服など軍事用の耐久向上に開発された生地で現在ではアウトドア用品に多く使われています。
